General Tryout and Club Information

Note for 2010 all Players must pre-register with USA Volleyball prior to tryouts. In addition the following documents must be presented at tryouts.
  1. Medical History and Release Form
  2. Liability Waiver
  3. Tryout Application

The purpose of our tryouts is to allow the coaching staff to evaluate individuals who wish to play with one of our teams. This evaluation will be only one criterion for selection to a team. History with the club, attitude, and experience are other criteria that may be considered. We may also contact your high school coach for information.

Coaches will determine what drills to conduct and whether or not scrimmages will be held. Different age groups conduct different drills.

Players who wish to tryout for a team that is not in her age group are welcome to do so. However, they must also be present at the tryouts for her age group.

    • The combined coaching staff will make decisions on what age group you play. This is based on many factors, not just your skill.
    • Since most of our coaches also coach in the local high schools, they are restricted in the number of players from their high school teams that they can coach in the club season. This alone, drives many of the decisions regarding which team you play on.

After tryouts are completed, all coaches will meet to discuss cuts. Players making teams will be listed on the Club website by 9 PM of the day of the tryout..

Questions can be directed to Rich Wilson at 392-6566.

  • Individuals making the team will be required to accept or decline within 48 hours. After 48 hours your spot will be offered to another player. Upon acceptance, you will be officially registered with the Cecil Volleyball Club and will be ineligible for registration with any other club.
  • For individuals who have received notification of being selected to a team, your first team meeting will be held at your first practice. Your coach will give you any additional information when you are contacted.
    • For this meeting you will need:
      1. A copy of your birth certificate. For returning players the club should have your birth certificates available.
      2. One of your parents or guardian must attend, even for 18’s.
      3. As a team, you will elect whether or not to participate in the  North East Qualifier and/or the East Coast Championship (Penn State). This election will determine the amount of your playing fees. This is different from past years due to the difficulty in collecting the extra fees for these tournaments and players backing out of their commitment at late dates.
      4. A check or cash in the amount of the base fee (and uniform fee if required) will be due at this meeting. Registration fees to the region and uniforms have to be taken care of immediately. Your daughter will not be registered nor allowed to practice until the fee is paid.
      5. At this meeting, your coaches will go over their expectations and practice plans.
  • Any deficiencies in required paperwork will be corrected at this meeting.

General Information:

  • Cecil Volleyball Club plays in a competitive environment at least equal to and in many cases beyond what your daughter will see in the local high schools. The club philosophy embraces competition as a means of developing the skills of the individual players. We do not compete with the goal of winning but with the goal of helping your daughters develop.
  • Playing time is always an issue with competitive players (and their parents). As a club, we do not guarantee equal playing time. But we do strive to get some playing time for all team members.
  • Determination of playing time is solely up to the team’s coaching staff. The club will not intervene in discussions concerning playing time.
  • Coaches will not discuss playing time with individual parents. This is a discussion that should take place between the coach and your daughter.
  • The position your daughter plays will be decided by the team’s coaching staff. It may be different from her position in high school. Most coaches will try to accommodate individual desires with respect to playing position, but the needs of the team will override the desires of individuals.
  • Playing fees are not refundable for any reason. This has been, and continues to be our policy. Commitments are made for the team as a whole, not as individuals. When players decide to leave, or are dismissed, our tournament entry fees remain the same.
  • Parents are strongly encouraged to attend practices as well as tournaments. You have a strong influence on their development as volleyball players.
  • Coaches are encouraged not to provide transportation for players to tournaments. This is the responsibility of the parents.
  • Players are encouraged not to drive to tournaments. Travel times can approach 2 hours and after 10 –12 hours of playing, fatigue is real concern. No player will be allowed to drive to a tournament without the written consent of her parents.
  • For players to develop they must be at practice. While academics and scholastic sports have to take precedence, attendance at practice is considered important and numerous absences are a basis for dismissal from the team and will influence playing time.
  • Any of the following are reason for dismissal from your team:
    • Use of drugs, alcohol or tobacco products. You will need a note from your parents to take non-prescription drugs. Team first aid kits do contain some over the counter pain killers.
    • Attitude.
    • Un-Sportsman like conduct.
    • Actions that result in unsafe conditions for you and your teammates.
    • Physical, verbal or emotional harassment of teammates or coaches by players or parents.
    • Leaving tournaments without permission of the coach.
    • Ignoring directions of coaches and chaperones.
    • Non-attendance of tournaments without prior permission of the coach.
  • The Cecil Volleyball Club is not for everyone. If you have concerns about how your daughter will fit in with the program talk to any of the coaches or Rich or Nikki Wilson. We will help you determine if the CVC is the best program for your daughter, and, if not, help steer you to a program that better fits your daughter’s needs.
  • Volleyball is a dangerous sport and injuries do occur. Our coaches are not trained to handle medical emergencies. We rely on the parents, players and their doctors to manage injuries and to provide us with information pertaining to playing or practice limitations. Players are required to have health insurance before they can participate in practices, tournaments or try-outs. Permission to Treat authorization is included on the Medical Form. Cecil Volleyball Club will refuse to accept a player into it's program without this authorization.
  • Cecil Volleyball’s staff and coaches are all volunteers.Your coaches will put in about 200 hours of time over the course of a season, time they could be spending with their own families. Please work with them to make the season an enjoyable one for everyone.
